The Copper Coast

We are located at the heart of Waterford’s Copper Coast in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with spectacular cliffs and panoramic views of the Celtic Sea. This is an inspirational place.

View from the cliffs

Bring a flask of tea to our cliff top field, it’s a breathtaking place to unwind!

The spacious landscape that surrounds us has a backdrop of the old copper mines at Tankardstown. It’s quite a dramatic landmark with its austere buildings and towering brick chimney. The Art Hand is the closest building to these old ruins.

Sunsets and sunrises are dramatic. Enjoy the tranquillity of this stunning location. It’s one of Ireland’s hidden treasures!

Storms here are exhilarating! The sky and light is always dramatic and the weather can change in a matter of minutes.

Dandelion on the Copper Coast

The area is designated by UNESCO as a Global Geopark. In the 18th century the area had a booming copper mining industry.

In this documentary film you can see how artists from the Talamh festival responded to this landscape in September 2023. You’ll see Dunhill Castle, Gaulstown Dolmen, the harbour at Boatstrand and many of our beaches, including our closest beach Kilmurrin Cove. Remember artists and creatives of all disciplines are welcome to apply for a Talamh Nua residency!

Andy and Billy in Boat in Bunmahon

If you like walking and cycling there’s a beautiful walkway through the Anne Valley and the Waterford Greenway is an amazing 46 km, car-free, off-road cycling and walking trail. Plus the Comeragh Mountains are not far inland.

If you’d like to understand what life was like here for our ancestors then here’s a film we made about a day in the life of a mining family.

There are great historic and geological displays at the museum in our local Copper Coast Geopark Visitor Center. There’s a lovely bar and restaurant in the village of Bunmahon called the Engine House. There’s a small shop in the village of Kill. The closest supermarket is a 20 minute drive to the seaside town of Tramore or 25 minutes in the opposite direction to the picturesque town of Dungarvan.
